About Us

Mills Boat Academy seeks to create quality nautical content online, backed up by excellent practical schools, to equip any aspiring seafarer with the skills to conduct themselves safely and confidently at sea.

Vision & Mission

Mills Boat Academy was born out of the desire to make sailing and powerboating more inclusive and more accessible! If something is truly good, it is even better when it’s shared! That’s our heart at Mills Boat Academy; to share this wonderful sport with you! In 2020, Jason Mills, our Principal, started creating sailing manuals and instructional videos to help bridge the gap between traditionally expensive classroom-based courses and self-study students who lacked support. Today, Mills Boat Academy has launched multiple online learning courses and practical sailing courses.

Meet Your Instructors

Jason Mills (Principal)

Jason loves the sea and has participated in ocean sports like surfing, freediving, and fishing since an early age. in 2016, Jason got his first taste of keelboat racing, competing in the Muira Nationals. Since then a week hasn't gone by when Jason hasn't been out on the water sailing! Jason has since gone on to qualify as a SAS Yachtmaster with commercial endorsement from SAMSA as an offshore sailor. Jason's favorite positions aboard a vessel are Foredeck and Helm.

Asenathi Jim (Coach)

Asenathi Jim is a South African sailor, who specialised in two-person dinghy (470) dinghy class sailing. He represented South Africa, at the 2012 Summer Olympics London and 2016 Olympics in Rio. As of June 2015, Jim is ranked twentieth in the world for the two-person dinghy class sailing by the International Sailing Federation. Asenathi is passionate about sharing his knowledge learnt through 2 Olympics and multiple world championships with his students. His favourite position aboard a vessel is tactician and helming and Asenathi believes that a good sailor never stops learning!

Facilities & Gallery

Mills Boat Academy and its vessels meet all the safety standards required to operate a training academy. Our boats are well maintained and regularly upgraded to ensure that our candidates receive training with the best equipment possible.
