The 1st race of a new series aboard a 26ft yacht c

The 1st race of a new series aboard a 26ft yacht called KAYO (the dark blue boat in the pictures).

KAYO is an L26 used for the promotion of youth sailing. Racing provides a competive and fun environment to learn how to sail a yacht! Racing also teaches many advanced sailing techniques and strategies.
KAYO sailed well this eve and achieved a 1st place in a fleet of 14 boats! 🥇

It was also a historic sail as it was the first time in many years that the FBYC fleet competed against the SA Navy, who raced their own L26 sailboat 🌞

It's been a lovely start to February with a Day skipper course in full swing. We are extremely grateful to have 2 @royalcapeyachtclub members join us in #FalseBay for their #Dayskippers. Hein just boat himself a Cape28 sailboat and Lucia is a racer on a very fast #J99 boat at RCYC. Our 3rd day skipper candidate is from Morroco and he and his partner are also new yacht owners with their own flamenca 25 docked at FBYC! 🌞

All of these students have chosen to do their SRC Radio Operator course with us and are all well on their way to successfully competing their @southafricansailing Day Skippers. ⚓

If your goal is to do your day skippers in 2024, let us prepare you for an adventure of a life time as you get competent as a #yacht skipper! ⛵

This group of Coastal Skippers rocked their examinations. Graham scored 100% on both his chartwork and COLREGs papers!
Our students were cool under pressure a flew threw their coastal practical exams too!
@douglas_brownie also managed to complete his yachtmaster offshore theory paper! 🏆

It's was such a good circuit of the bay we did it twice in 48 hours 😂pushed along by 6-10knots of wind at a steady 4-6.5knots of boat speed we were happy to just keep going! ⚓

Not only has this been a great year of sailing courses, but when there has been an opportunity, Mills Boat Academy has lined up on the race course🏁
We have a real passion for racing as nothing quite compares to rounding the windward bouy and settling a full-send course downwind!
Many of our students have joined us this season on the race course and we've even occasionally managed a podium with a misfit crew of sailors. A testiment to the amazing design of our lovely L34 sailboat, which we love ❤️

A competent crew course in November! These ladies absolutely smashed their competent crew training, and many of them have gone on to achieve their day skippers! 🌟

@emilyalmagro has gone on to a Day Skipper course, Heather has achieved Day Skipper certification, Ketula is planning towards a Coastal Skipper course, and Debbie is keen on continuing crewing on Wednesday night races.😁

What makes this course so great for us is being part of seeing our clients develop often life changing passion for sailing and the ocean. In this case, these students have all jumped head first into this beautiful sport ❤️

It's been an incredible year of partnering with these organisation's to offer competent crew training, powerboat training, and day skipper courses to the driven students of Lawhill.

Cape of storms? Well after 16 hours of sailing we

Cape of storms? Well after 16 hours of sailing we had a lot of fun sailing Simon's Town to Houtbay and return and we can confirm it's name is well deserved.😅

The first day had westerlies that saw us rocketing to Hout Bay in 6 hours. Not bad if we do say so ourselves. Once around Cape point we encountered stronger than predicted winds gusting 25 knots and large 3m swell on the beam. This made for some exciting sailing and a few breakers over the side of the boat. Average boat speed: 9.5knots after rounding Cape Point.⚓

However not every #CapePoint rounding will be blessed with a westerly and the next day we were set to return into 35knot SE winds.
The 5.30am cast off time had has leaving early for what we knew would be a slog into the same 3m swells but this time 30-35knots winds... This time it would be on our nose! Motorsailing at 3-4knots to fight the swell to clear the worst of the storm was our best bet. It would take us 6 hours just to reach Cape Point. Average speed to Cape point: 3.5knots in a very confused sea.⛵

But as we rounded SW Reef we turned off the donkey and rocketed downwind. A doubled reefed main and no.4 jib still had us surfing at 13.5knots but all onboard welcomed the downwind sled ride home.😄
