Course Description
Most sailing vessels over 9m in length have a diesel engine. These diesel engines are an important safety tool should our vessels loose their ability to sail, or an emergency occur where motoring is the most effective means to get somewhere quickly. Our diesel engines are also a source of power generation to charge our vessels batteries. So its important that they are maintained well.
This Diesel Mechanics course will teach candidates how to diagnose problems on a marine diesel engine, what should be done to fix these problems, as well as how to effectively maintain a marine diesel engine.
This course is not going to give you the skills of a professional marine diesel mechanic, but will equip you with the knowledge necessary to fix basic issues at sea and maintain your diesel engine in good running order. (We still recommend you consult a professional diesel mechanic every 12 months, and when a major issues occurs to ensure your diesel engine is maintained correctly).

Students who complete this course successfully will receive a Mills Boat Academy certificate of completion
